What I read when I am reading, among other things

Books I read fall into three general, hazy, and porous categories:
1. YA novels: such as those by EL Konigsburg, Brian Jacques, Lois Lowry, Hugh Lofting, Madeleine L'Engle, Sharon Creech, and Judy Blume. These are the books I subsisted on growing up, and have never really outgrown them.

2. "Food books" encompass (auto)biographies of chefs/restaurateurs/food writes, food/culinary history, recipe books (such as David Chang's "Momofuku"), and everything interesting that falls in this vague spectrum. The best part is getting to translate all the glorious food I read day in and day out into actual edible creations.

3. Whatever else catches my fancy. This is mostly a hit-or-miss category. I have books on science history, world music, philosophy, medieval manners, current best sellers, and canonical works of both fiction and non-fiction.

I buy most of my books from library book sales, the best one being in the basement of the public library close to where I live ($1 a book, $5 for new/current hardbound bestsellers).

I love reading (and it is, in fact, what I do for a living), and I aim to read about 2-3 books a week, mostly done on the Metro and before bedtime. During the interim I cook, go to work, and tend to Totoro.
